Today’s piece: Romance Anónimo by anonymous composer.
Although this piece is one of most popular classical guitar repertoire, not much is known about its origin. Many sources cite spanish guitarist, Antonio Rubira, as its composer, but there is no evidence to confirm the fact. It is thought to be a popular parlour music (easy and popular music intended to be played at middle class homes and social gatherings) tune of the 19th Century.
Regardless of its authorship or origin, this is one of those pieces that can speak to your heart directly and cannot be forgotten once heard. 💓
I have been humming this tune for a couple of days recently, so decided to look it up and share it with you guys, but only to find out that we know nothing about the piece’s background. I think it’s an example of that great music is not about famous composers, genius performers or elite audiences. Great music composed by nobody, performed by amateur musicians at home, loved by pop culture fans can be as powerful as a maestro’s masterpiece. 😌
I hope to become a musician who can appreciate and share powerful and beautiful music with others beyond the stereotypes of “classical music”.
