CHOPIN PIANO ETUDE OP.10 NO. 3

I’m so sad my thanksgiving break is over 😢 goodbye to my relaxing days… speaking of goodbye, Chopin etude Op. 10 No.3 is nicknamed as “farewell” (or “tristesses”) which is not surprising if you listen to the melancholy melody of the main theme in this piece… Chopin etudes take special place is every pianists’ heart with their technical challenges yet beautiful musicality. Inhabiting these two contrasting qualities without compromising to each other made all 24 pieces performance worthy AND rite of passage worthy to all piano students. Yet, this particular etude 10-3, is especially cantabile and emotionally vulnerable piece- it almost sounds like something from new age or pop music. In fact, it has been quoted in pop culture frequently. Personally, I heard this piece in the iconic korean drama “Autumn in My Heart”. The etude was the background piece in the ending scene while the heroin was dying on the back of her lover! I was very young at that time but the melody was too beautiful and memorable to forget! Years later, I encountered this piece in my piano study and I was so excited to hear the piece again!

Goodbyes are sad, but they can be very very beautiful as well… I am so sad that my break is ending, but I will be graceful and make a beautiful goodbye to it….. 😌🤷🏻‍♀️ I hope you can say a beautiful goodbye to your weekend as well.
